Winter pictures

Here are some winter pics from around my neighborhood. This first pic is our front sidewalk and it's buried deep. The second is of our neighbors car that's buried. This third pic is of my dad trying to get his car unstuck, and the fourth pic is of my neighbors tree. I will have more pics on the way!

Snow Sucks!!!!

I normally like winter, but not this year! On Wednesday the 17th is when the snow hit. It was really bad and the news kept broadcasting live weather reports for about five hours!I found out early Thursday morning that school was closed. Oh boy. Now I had to make the day up later in the year. On Friday, school was also canceled. Another day to make up. Saturday, we shoveled and shoveled and shoveled. It was very bad. On Sunday, we did nothing except shovel because we were trapped! My mom and I are going bonkers! Now, it's Monday and I had to get up early to..... wait for it..... shovel. And it was very deep. My mom was going to go to work today, but the lady she works for told her no. So she won't get paid. I am officially on Winter Break right now, and I'm going to go back on January 5th. I hope that that day doesn't get canceled as well! I'm extremely bored and I have nothing to do. I have read so many books that would make anyone elses' head spin!
Pics are coming soon!

The first 4.0

This is a story I wrote over the summer. It's based on a true story about me and a friend. The two names I used in this story are ones I picked out myself. If you have one of these names, please do not be offended!

Lila knew she should be happy for her friend but she wasn’t. She was angrier than ever. She felt her cheeks grow hot and tears come to her eyes. Lila and her best friend Ana, had been attending Shadybrook elementary for seven years out of seven.

As soon as Lila and Ana went in the fourth grade, the fifth, and the sixth, they attended the tri-annual awards assemblies. Ana was in a different class than Lila. Ana’s teacher had very high standards. For the next 2 and a half years, Ana received 4.0 and Lila did not.

The very last awards assembly in 6th grade on the last day of school, Lila was more determined than ever to receive the 4.0. When she walked in the gym she whispered “4.0, 4.0, 4.0, 4.0.”

When Lila’s teacher got up to the stage she and Ana were both understandably nervous. Ana went up first. Of course, she got 4.0. Lila heard her name get called:
“Lila Panerello, Academic Honor Roll, 4.0”

Lila could not believe her ears. Lila jumped up, pounded the air with her fist, and hugged Ana. Lila went up to the stage with tears in her eyes and pride overwhelming her. She, Lila Panerello, who had never received a 4.0 since the 4th grade, had just received her first 4.0. Lila was so proud of herself. All she could do was stand there on the stage and let the tears fall freely.

A lucky dog gets a surviving chance

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching the local 6:00 news. Normally, I don't watch the news because I have homework, but this time I didn't. One story caught my eye. I am an animal lover, so this story settled deep in my heart for a long stay.

This particular news piece was about a very sick dog. He has something wrong with his nervous system and has trouble putting weight on his back feet because he can't feel them. His loving and caring owner helps him stand by putting a towel around his low tummy and holding the towel by the ends.

One day, the dogs owner decided to have a yard sale. In 48degree weather. Just for her dog. So, she scrounged up everything and every piece of junk she had to sell. Her friends also pitched in and brought over their stuff too. She had this sale to help pay off the growing veterinarian bills that were piling up. The last I heard the faithful owner had $800.00 to pay for veterinary bills.

It's been a couple of weeks now, and I'm sure that she has raised even more money. So, everyday, my heart goes out to all the sick dogs out there in the world.

World AIDS day

Today is world AIDS day. I'm not sure what the color is, but I think it's red. Anyway, I just wanted to say a little because AIDS is very bad. I know there is medication that you can take, but there is no cure. None that I know of anyway. So, let us think good thoughts for all the people affected with AIDS.

Flour babies 411

Because I'm an eighth grader, I have classes that the seventh graders don't have. One of the classes is called Life Skills. The latest assignment had to do with flour. Each student had to have a sack of flour. You could have a 5lb. sack or a 10lb. sack or two 5lb. sacks of flour (for twins). I chose to have just one 5lb. sack of flour. Anyways, I had to pretend that I had a baby and I had to take care of it for three days. I had to fill out a birth certificate and record everything that happened. I had to take the "baby" everywhere I went! It was very frustrating. The "baby" needed a blanket, toys, a face, and clothes. I also needed to make a toy for it too! I'm glad that when the assignment was over, the sacks of flour went to charity. I'm also glad that this assignment is over. The first pic is me with a stuffed basketball toy under my shirt and the second pic is me with holding the sack of flour.

Veteran Poem

Because today is Veteran's Day, I will post the poem I wrote. I wrote this poem for a contest at school. I didn't win though. It didn't matter to me. Here's the poem:

Veteran Poem

Our veterans have fought or do fight side by side with one another.

They know what they are doing although they may be scared or afraid.

They know what they are doing although we may not.

For all the lives in the world living or dead, I pray the most for our brave troops.

America’s troops or as I like to call them, “America’s Warriors” need our strength.

They need our hope. Our love. Our faith.

What they need right now more than ever, is our optimism.

Because they give optimism, we need to return the favor and give it right back to them.

Our troops, veterans, soldiers, Warriors.

God bless America

Tell me what you think!

This is my sixth picture that I took at the Arboretum. I took it near the parking lot. I don't really know how to describe the colors, but I think it's pretty!

Really big weeping willow tree

This is my sixth pic that I took at the Arboretum. It's a really big tree. I think it's some sort of weeping willow tree. Inside on the branches and on the trunk, there are millions and millions of scratched writings and etchings of initials and hearts and things like that!

Gorgeous red bush

This is my fifth pic that I took at the Arboretum. It's my favorite because it's small and it's a really pretty pinkish red color! Enjoy!

At my school we are split into teams. There are 2 or 3 seventh grade teams and 2 or 3 eighth grade teams. During the school year, we have a lot of team spirit competition days. Sometimes it can last a whole week or more. Anyway, on October 17th, we had a team competition. We had to run laps around the two fields my school has. The seventh grade teams were on one field and eighth grade teams were on the other. We had to run as many laps as we could. Each lap got you a tally mark. The team that had the most laps got to go to the Arboretum and the second place team got to watch a movie at school. The team I am on was first place, so we got to go to the Arboretum. On October 24th, we went. It was beautiful over there with all the fall colors. I was also sick.

I'll be posting the pictures that I took over there. This is my first one.

Happy Halloween!!!!!!!

Hello everyone!

Today is Halloween! I'm so happy. I'm not going out to trick-or-treat like most of my friends. I don't care. Two of my friends are going to be butterflies. Another friend is going to be a witch. Today at school, everyone was amped up and it was funny to see my friends hyper. Hope you get lotsa candy!

How can you be hyper but you never had any sugar?

My very first Dance!!!!

This might sound cheesy, but I had my very first dance Wednesday October, 29th. I didn't go to any of my seventh grade dances. The school was having a deal that if you bought your yearbook, you would get a free dance ticket. I didn't want to go to the dance but I wanted a yearbook. I bought the yearbook. I received my free dance ticket. So, last night I went to my first dance of the year and I had so much fun! Except, I hated the music. It sucked.

Damn u imaginary kwiksandz!

more animals

Ah yes, the aspects of love. I'm pretty sure that most of you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, no big deal. If any or all of my readers out there in the world (or my own house) you know that I'm a middle schooler and in the eighth grade. Anywho, I was sitting in my last class and someone comes up to me, sits down next to me, and passes a note. Me being stupid, opened up the note. Bad mistake. I came to regret opening up the note. It's been the third one in three weeks. Oh well. I'm pretty sure that if my brother reads this, I'll soon be getting a phone call. Good thing my mom already knows.

Not so perfect attendee

I missed a day of school today because I am sick. But I'm getting better though. Anyway, at my school we have two semesters and each semester has two quarters. So, I have four quarters. We have this really cool new thing this year that if you don't miss a single day in the quarter, you get to do this special event at the end. Of course, you start over at each new quarter. I missed the cool field trip for first quarter, but I have three more to do the fun field trips! Also we have two awards assemblies (one for each semester) and you get the Perfect Attendance award if you don't miss any days in each semester. I won't get any for the first one, But I'm determined to get one for the second one!

All right!

As some of you may know, I went to Safeway yesterday to wash car windows to help with the Breast Cancer Awareness. We raised $130.00 and at the end of the day we split it, my family got $65.00 and the BCA got the other $65.00. The other family that was helping also had to leave early so we're not sure how much money they will get. My family and I got free Jamba Juices at the end of the day. They were so delicious.

P.S I am sick so I won't be writing much.

Thursday, October 16, 2008

New Event

On Saturday October, 18th I will be at Safeway in the Shadle Center washing car windows to benefit the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October. I will also be working with the Safeway employees. At the end of the day, the employee(s) will split the money I earn. I get half and the BCA gets the other half. I am also going to sell chocolate bars for trip money and I don't have to split it. So, if there's any friends, family-members, or other important people who want to come, you are welcome to. I would greatly appreciate it. I will be at Safeway from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Barack Obama vs John McCain

In my opinion I think that Obama would make a much better president than McCain. I believe this because Obama sounds like someone who could keep their promises. For example, in the commercials for Obama it says information like 'Sen. Obama will do good because....' Well, I believe it. I want Barack for his words, his promises. Do you remember that famous Martin Luther King (Jr.?) speech? I know that most of you weren't alive back then or maybe you were to young to remember it. I certainly don't remember it because I wasn't alive yet, but I do remember hearing about it and seeing it on t.v. Ever since I saw that speech on t.v, I've been listening closer to the words that people say. Their words. That's why I want Sen. Barack Obama. For his words. His promises. What I don't want is Sen. John McCain and his scary VP Sarah Palin.

Some of you readers out there might say 'Wow' or 'What's she talking about?' I may not know what I'm talking about, but that doesn't matter. I'm only 13 but I think that the young peoples voices should be heard too.

Sunday, October 12, 2008

I think I need to do a little explaining. I have never done anything like this before so I guess I was expecting more than what really happened. I had a base amount of $61.00 and when I counted the money at home, I had $117.00. I then subtracted $61.00 from $117.00 and got $56.00. I was at Yokes for 4 hours and I earned $56.00. I know now that I need to look on the bright side, not because I was only there for 4 hrs. but because I earned money for my trip. I'm grateful for any amount.

Remember my post "REMINDER" that I wrote yesterday? Well, I shouldn't have written it because the car-wash part got axed; it was too cold, and the trunk-sale part didn't do very well; there wasn't enough slew of people. The only thing that seemed to sell was the candy and the home-baked goods that I made. Oh well. Maybe next weekend there will be more money and more people because I'll be at my local Safeway.

Thursday, October 9, 2008

This a reminder folks. If you want to help me out with my trip money, you can go to Yokes at North Foothills Drive. We will be at the southeast corner of the Yokes parking-lot by the Pac-n-Ship. So, family, friends, important news personel, you are welcome. Friday the tenth 12:00pm to 6:00pm and Saturday the eleventh 10:00am to 6:00pm.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

I'm going to do something a little different for this post. I have a little book full of little writings. I call the book 'My Writing Book' I started this book in the year of 2004 at age 9. I am still using the book and it's now 2008 and I'm now 13. Periodocally, I will put my little writings on my blog. This is my very first one. I'm sorry if I've offended you in any way. Sit back and enjoy!!!!

Remember that change of trips that I mentioned? Well, I'm still going but this coming weekend, the group and I are having a carwash/trunk-sale type thing to raise money for the group to go. The car-wash thing is a little iffy because of the weather. My friends and family, if you would like to have your car washed then you can go to the Yokes grocery store at North Foothills Drive; Friday and Saturday. Hope to see you there!!

Animal Lovers Needed

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple. Please tell ten (or more) friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Website is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
Just go to their site and click on 'feed an animal in need' for free.
It's in a purple box in the middle of the page. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know. Please just
click on this site, The Animal Rescue Site AGAIN, PLEASE

A change of trips

My family and I have been doing some thinking about the People to People trip. We think it's too long of a time for me to be away from home. Maybe when I'm a little older I will do a P2P trip.

BUT... I have decided to take an educational trip through my school, either next Spring or Summer. The trip I will be going on will be going to Washington D.C. and New York City through Smithsonian Student Travel. I will be doing activities such as visiting all of the Presidential Monuments, Arlington Cemetary, Smithsonian Institute, & visiting old town Alexandria, where George Washington once lived.

This trip is much cheaper. I think it's under $2,000.00. I am selling candy bars and saving soda cans to recycle to raise money for this. Once I fill out the application, I will need to start making payments.

So, if anyone still wants to help me by buying candy, saving soda cans, or donating to the education of your favorite niece, sister, daughter, friend, student, I would really appreciate it!!!!

Awesome Pawsome

Last Sunday I went to the animal shelter for my weekly volunteering. It was hard work that I did but it was fun. I had no idea that I was going to be rewarded that day. My mentor and I went into the surgery room. There I saw the most amazing thing. The vet tech was nutering 6 puppies. They weren't just any type of puppy, they were Goldendoodles. That is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. The process was unbelieveable. Here are the steps:

1.- Inject puppy with some special sleepy stuff
2.- Put oxygen mask on puppy in order for them to breath in the anestetics
3.- Make small incision on the low part of stomach on puppy
4.- I think you know what happens now
5.- Wipe any blood off with gauzz
6.- Seal incision with special surgical glue
7.- Take mask off puppy and put in cage with siblings

Also, Sunday night, my dog got stung by a bee in her mouth but, at the time, we didn't know that it was a bee sting. We took her to a Pet emergency Clinic and the vet looked in her mouth and said it was a Ranula (abcsessed saliva gland) under her tounge. She became better and we didn't have to take her in for the planned surgery.

P.S. Has something bad ever happened to a pet of yours?

A spectacular view

Over the weekend, my family and I went to Steptoe Butte State Park near Pullman, Washington. It was an amazing sight to see, especially since it's all farmland. I think it's pretty because it's like a ton of different patches of a quilt sewn together with variations of greens, yellows, and browns.

Oh lord!

My df is not a blogger. He has a blog but, my dm does it for him. He did not know that if you wanted to leave a comment on somebody else's blog you could be anonymous. I showed him last night and he finally got it. But lo and behold, my dm had to confuse him again. She was trying to tell him that you had to have a post in order for somebody to leave a comment. He thought that there was some where special that you could leave comments. There is, but a post and a comment are not the same. Now, let's see if he can comment anonymously on this post!!!

First day of school

I officially started 8th grade on September 2nd. I was nervous because I was to find out my schedule, lunch number, and locker combo that morning. Throughout the day, I became less frustrated. At the end of the day my mom picked me up from school and we went out for coffe. Here is my first day of school picture. Enjoy!! TTYL

P.S Was there a time when you felt nervous on a first day of something?(school, new job, interview?)

Back to Seattle

This red sculpture in this picture here, is very near to my heart. Some of you might say, a red sculpture? Well, I say yes. I say yes because, my Uncle E painted it around 14 or 15 years ago. He even had a picture in the local paper of him spraying it. It's called the Iliad Sculpture, and it was moved about 100 yards from where he originally painted it. They moved it with a big crane so they could expand a building on it's original spot. Pretty cool huh? TTYL

P.S. Is there some kind of artwork or painting that you or a family member or a friend created?

People to People International

People to People is an Ambassador program founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Yesterday I received one of their letters inviting me to Australia for the summer of 2009. This is my third PtP letter. My first one was to the United Kingdom. My second one was to Greece and Italy. And finally my third. I got asked to go to Australia. If I go "I can experience 15 days of rewarding activities and meet the people of Australia. My local will represent the United States overseas, experience new cultures, and make lifelong friends. I will advance as a young leader through special access and focused excursions and will gain:

. Confidence and leadership -Snorkel and swim at the Great Barrier Reef and learn to surf at one of Australia's pristine beaches.

. Cultural understanding- Play the didgeridoo and throw a boomerang with Australia's Aboriginal people. Join in their traditional music and dance.

. World awareness- Discover the planet's diversity as I go four-wheeling on the world's largest sand island and bush walk amid 40-foot ferns of the lush rainforest.

. Friendship and memories- Stay with a warm, welcoming family, cuddle with a koala, and watch kangaroos, then bond with the other delegates while cruising the Sydney Harbour."

I really want to go to Australia next summer but it costs a lot of money. This is my third letter and I really really want to go.

Sleepy Daddy

On Friday, the 15th, the night before we left, my daddy had to work late. In fact, he got home around 3:30 on Saturday morning. Because of that, my mom drove for some time while my daddy slept in the car. This is a picture of him sleeping.

More Stuff: stuff from Seattle

As you know, I went to Seattle for the weekend. On Saturday, we walked around. And about 7:30 at night we went up the Space needle to watch the sunset. It was beautiful.I also bought a key chain for a friend. I cannot show the picture yet because it's not on the computer. On Sunday I went to Pike's Place Market, I did the Underground Tour, went to the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, and went to a t-shirt shop. On that day I bought a hair decoration, a bag of Jelly Beans, a key chain for myself, a pink bracelet, and a shirt. On Monday, on the way home we stopped at the big fruit and antique stand in Thorpe, Washington just outside Ellensburg. I bought 4 honey sticks and 2 carmals. It was very dusty. In fact, we drove through a dust storm. While I took a nap, my mom drove by a freeway brush fire outside of Moses Lake. I had so much fun in Seattle!!! This is the view of the sunset from the SpaceNeedle.

No P.S. question today. Sorry!!!

I'm a Bandita now!!

There's this show I watch called Deadliest Catch. Well, one of the boats is called Time Bandit. The two brothers who run the boat are Capt. Andy Hillstrand & Capt. Jonathon Hillstrand. Jon does the Alaskan Red King Crab Season & Andy does the Opilio Season. Well, they wrote a book together. The book is called Time Bandit: Two Brothers, the Bering Sea, and One of the World's Deadliest Jobs. They came to a local book signing. I got the book autographed by both of them. Andy wrote: "Congrats on the 4.0!" Jon wrote: Stay in school, Shut-up and Fish!" My mom even got pictures.

P.S. Have you met anyone famous?

Do you remember that event that I told you about in my previous post? Well, I went to it and I had fun . I was there for 5 hours. I had to stay inside the whole time in the big cat room to help customers and answer questions. I didn't mind because it was quite hot outside that day. Before I went home I got 2 shirts and a goody bag. Inside the goody bag there was a small bag of dog food, a pen, a notepad, an orange bracelet, and information and dogs and cats.

As Tigger would say, ta ta for now.

P.S. Do you own any animals?

My animals

In my profile I mentioned that I like animals and that I also volunteer at my local animal shelter. Well, it's true. I'm 100% animal lover. On Sunday, July 20th I went to the animal shelter. There are only dogs and cats there so that's why I'm in the cat department. I'm going to list some names now. These are cat names. You may have the same name so please don't get offended.

My favorite female cats & kittens:
. Brooklyn (adopted)
. Francesca (adopted or in ISO)
. Lenore
. Pheobe
. Midnight
. Mama Kitty
. Jonie
. Mary Anna
. Annie
. Mother and daughter (no names; long hair Calico)

My favorite male cats & kittens:
. Gorgon (adopted)
. my pretty boy Jake (adopted or in ISO)
. Half Pint (kitten)
. Dip Stick (kitten)
. Chubby (kitten)

Saturday, July 26th there's going to be an event at the animal shelter. I'm going to this event because I'm a volunteer. All staff and volunteers will get a special T-shirt. I'm not aloud to say what the event is called.

So long

P.S. Do you volunteer anywhere?

Tacoma Cont.

I had so much fun over the weekend in Tacoma. The weather was unexpectedly hot. I was amazed to find that the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium was so huge. Its size is just over 5 acres. I saw lots of different animals: A Peacock, Beluga Whales, Harbor Seals, Pacific Walrus, Sea Otters, Tufted Puffins, Red Wolves, Sharks, Octopus, Seahorses, Tropical fish, Birds of Prey, Sumatran Tigers, White-cheeked gibbons, Siamangs, Lowland anoas, Malayan tapirs, Crested Porcupines, Asian otters, Asian elephants, Meerkats, Ring-tailed lemurs, Black lemurs, Arctic Foxs, Muskox, Polar Bears, Reindeer, and a Turtle. WOW!!!!!!!! That's quite a list. I told you that place is huge. There are more animals there but they're mostly creepy crawlies. Before we left, I bought a shot glass and a small water bottle. I also had an unexpected trip to Olympia, Washington. My great uncle showed us his new condo and he told us funny stories. On the way home my family and I stopped at Snoqalamie Falls. It was really neat. The place had a little gift shop and I bought another shot glass. I now have a total of 58 shot glasses. There are only 5 places left in my showcase.

Ta Ta For Now

P.S. What do you like to collect?

Ridding the World of Pennies

Last night I watched the last 15 minutes of 60 Minutes. (Normally I don't watch this show because I think it's boring.) Morly Shaffer, the reporter, visited one of the mints where they create pennies. Shaffer was at the mint because there's controversey about the penny. Some people think the penny should be taken out of circulation. Other people want our beloved penny to stay in circulation. As for myself, I want our penny to stay. The important people who mint the pennies are thinking about creating new backsides to the penny. They all look really cool. Our beloved penny with good ol' honest Abe Lincoln on the back won't ever be taken away.(Or at least I hope it won't.)

ta ta for now

P.S. Do you think our penny should be taken away?

Hey everybody,

Right now I am doing nothing because I am so very bored. I went to my gramma's house today, it was fun. Yesterday I went to Barnes N' Noble and got a new book and a new 2009 daily planner. I love that place. Also, I stopped by Claire's and looked at their earrings. It was kind of hard because I need nickle-free, and none of the earrings said nickle-free. But, I'm sure there were specific racks. Oh well.

P.S. How do you deal with boredom?

Hello everybody!!

Today is a great day for me because 1, it's Friday and 2, I'm reading a great book. It's called Lioness Rampant. The author is Tamora Pierce. Also, it's part of the Totallan series. There are three parts to this series. Each part contains four books.

The Lioness Quartet: (part one)

Alanna: The First Adventure(book 1)
In the Hand of the Goddess(book 2)
The Woman Who Rides Like a Man(book 3)
Lioness Rampant(book 4)

The Immortals Quartet: (part two)

Wild Magic(book 1)
Wolf-Speaker(book 2)
Emperor Mage(book 3)
The Realms of the Gods(book 4)

Protector of the Small: (part three)

I do not know the names of these books because the book I'm currently reading does not list the titles of the books.

Talk To You Later

Hello all bloggers! Have you ever gone on a mystery vacation? Well, I haven't. But, I am going on one this weekend. I have no idea where I'm going. I'm going to find out where we're going when we get there. I keep pestering my mom and dad but they're not telling me. How rude!! I only know a few things. Here is what I know:

. My dog is coming with us
. We are staying one night
. Everything we pack goes in one suitcase
. We've never been there before
. Saturday, the 21st, when we're leaving, the forecast is 70's and rainy

Well, that's it folks. That's all I know. I'll let you know more on Monday.

P.S. Who do you want to win the Presidential Race to '08? Obama? McCain?
